It's Official ~ Jorja's a Genius

We officially received word today that Jorja has been accepted into Program Challenge (the gifted program). She was tested in four areas and had to be accepted in 3 of the 4 areas. Actually since Jorja scored 99 on the COGAT (Mental Ability), she only needed to be accepted in one other area. She also scored a 99 on the achievement test, 98 on the creativity test and a 42 on motivation. What the? How does she get a 42 on motivation? I'm wondering if she wouldn't talk.

Anyways, I was really excited about this. I was pretty sure she was gifted, but it is hard to judge when my normal is Maysen and Stockton. I can't believe how super smart these kids are, yet how COMPLETELY different they are as well.

On another unrelated note, Mike and I have been working on a system to get the kids motivated during the summer. Mostly so Stockton doesn't spend all his time on the myninjakiwi site. Stockton is obsessed with ranks. Which is why he loves the kiwi site so much. So, Mike had Stockton invent ranks for a chore chart. The 1st rank is Filthy and the 25th rank is Eternity Star. The kids get points for things they do. For example, silent reading for 40 minutes is 10 points. They also get points for reading scriptures, saying prayers, practicing piano, eating dinner, working in the garden, passing off scout stuff . . . a wide variety of things. The goal is 100 points a day. If they get 100 points, they earn a sticker. Stickers can be used for small prizes we will have. But the points will accumulate. Good thing too, because you have to reach 25,000 points to become an Eternity Star!

  1. So is the most they can earn 100 points per day? If so, the soonest this "summer" program could end, and one could be awarded with the "Eternity Star" would be February 8th, and that's assuming you started today.

In other news, Stockton needs to invent a ranking system for the number of times Lincoln leaves his room after being put to sleep.

  2. The beauty of the program is, you can only earn one sticker a day, but you can earn as many points as you want. After they do their 40 minutes of silent reading, each half hour is also 10 points. Plus, every other day I get to choose what they read. Otherwise, Stockton would always choose Calvin & Hobbes!
