Lunch with JJ

Preston had a pretty good day today, considering his mouth was messed up. He slept until about noon. We were good about keeping up with his medicine. I woke him up twice to take the pain pills. He didn't want to be in bed today. Yesterday he stayed on the recliner and watched "Magic for Humans" ... all three seasons. Today he wanted to be back to his computer. We did the ice pack and he was great about doing all the things he was asked to do. I'm glad he was able to play his games to distract him.

Jorja took her friend JJ out to lunch today. It was his birthday a few days ago. They went to Mobettas. She drove the jeep. I don't know why Bear thought he had been invited.

After lunch, Jorja went to the Pepperwood courts to play volleyball with her friends. They went swimming too. She seemed to have a great time.

Jorja met Layla tonight. Layla asked if Jorja could hang out with her and Jorja was beyond thrilled. Layla is so busy so I'm glad they were able to find a time. They planned stuff to do on the SBO retreat next week. I am glad they were able to have some bonding time and so thankful that Jorja has another girl to be an SBO with. Jorja and Layla texted the other student government girls. The new head cheerleader just had her boyfriend break up with her and she was pretty sad. The girls met at Walmart and got a whole bunch of yellow things to leave a surprise for her. She wasn't home, but this is what it looked like. I love how these girls look out for each other.

Oral Surgery

That is what Preston got to do today. He got rid of the extra tooth above his front permanent teeth, a baby tooth that didn't want to fall out and three wisdom teeth. According to Mike, this is what they did to remove the extra tooth. (He sent me this awhile ago and I did not want Preston to see it before the actual surgery!)

From Mike: He'll be fine. Just don't give him the details of what they will actually be doing...like pulling back the tissue on the palate then drilling away palatal bone to expose the tooth then take it out and stitching him back up.

So, that is what Preston had done today! Preston did great and I'm glad we got this over with. He has big stitches you can see through his front teeth. Didn't get a picture of that though. Jorja texted me and asked how Preston was doing. I snapped this picture and showed her. My little boy looks so nervous! He was brave though! He never complained one bit.

The surgery took about an hour. We weren't allowed to wait in the waiting room because of corona. This started at noon, so Mike and I went to grab lunch. We were down in Provo. Usually we go to this doctor in South Jordan, but they had to do Preston's surgery here with the fancy pediatric anesthesiologist. He was put all the way under and needed a breathing tube. Soooo glad everything went well. Anyway, Mike and I drove around and I saw this little place Jorja and I love to go to. It is called Bowl of Heaven. Mike stopped at Firehouse Subs and I walked over to the other store. There was a sign on the door saying they closed because of corona. Booooo!!!!! So, Firehouse Subs it was. The office had special surgery parking lots, so we waited there for the nurse to wave us in. I sat next to Preston on the way home. He wanted to honk his nose and honk my nose. We faceted Jorja and he tried to honk her nose through the phone. Didn't expect that! Hahaha

We got Preston home and tried to give him food like instructed. He couldn't swallow anything. Not even water. I went to the store and got his medicine. I also got ointment and bandages for Mike's leg. His blisters are really bad. He only got blisters in areas where he has no pigment. Interesting. He will have to be super careful about sunscreen in the future.

Jorja called up Mike and asked if she could use his number for a Venmo account. It is for the student government girls and they are supposed to venmo a dollar every time they kiss someone throughout the year. At the end of the year they want to go to dinner with the money. How many people are they planning on kissing!!! Anyway, they decided to make a lemonade stand and go to the Corner Canyon parking lot. I was not happy about this. Tons of high school kids hang out at this parking lot and kiss random people. Like the Pepperwood party all year long. It's ridiculous. Jorja has never gone before, then she does this! She told me she kissed one person. I asked who. She didn't even know. I tried not being angry, but I was. She went seven months without kissing one person, then now she is going down this road? I'm worried that because she did everything right with Riley and it went so bad that she isn't going to care anymore. She asked me why she was mad. She did nothing wrong. It was the quickest kiss in history. She has the rest of her life to kiss one person, so why can't she have fun now? I told her that I understand she should be able to have fun and do crazy things like kissing booths. Except, we are in the middle of a pandemic! It's not fair, but it is reality. I have been letting her hang out with friends, but kissing a total stranger is not smart right now. She doesn't have the best immune system and Preston has just had surgery... you just can't do things like that right now.

After Corner Canyon they went to Alta and hung out on the football field. She did get home before midnight, so at least she is doing well with her curfew. That hasn't always been the case.

The kids woke up around 11:00. Jorja took them home and then she went to breakfast with Bode. I took Preston to the oral surgeon. Turns out that he has to have the tooth removed from the top. Not a pleasant experience, although Blake has already had it done. So has my dad. I guess my dad is to blame for this extra tooth. They are also going to take three of Preston's wisdom teeth out. Might as well get it done while he is already unconscious. They can't find a fourth one. Hopefully he doesn't have one. If he does, then he will have to have it removed later. While we were waiting in the back of the oral surgeon's, I thought I saw Sherry go into a room. That was random. I wasn't sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me, so I had my eyes glued to that room. A few moments later I saw Miah walk in! Miah! She was getting her wisdom teeth out today. We were the only patients in that entire office. What are the chances?

Stockton called as I was leaving to Preston's appointment. I talked to him the entire way there. That was nice. Although he had some crazy news. His mission president has now gone home. He has corona. He started showing symptoms on Monday and was diagnosed Wednesday and sent home today. Stockton was with him Friday. So, that's lovely. I hope he is okay and I hope no one else gets sick. Especially Stockton.

Jorja had a student government barbecue to close out their camp. She had a lot of fun there. I'm glad they were able to have some kind of camp, but it was not even close to the level of fun and excitement as they have at Utah State. Too bad these kids missed out on that experience.

Game 2

Jorja made it through school with her sore mouth. She even managed to score a 100 on her physics test. Too bad her US History grade is a B- right now. There are some things that haven't been put in yet, so hopefully that will go up. Jorja didn't feel well enough to go to Kerity's after school though. She made it through work, although that was tough. She was exhausted and sore at the end of the day. I actually made dinner tonight and felt that needs to be documented. Two of the three people even liked it! (Can't please Preston with food now a days.)

I had the BEST time watching Game 2 of the World Series. Nats DOMINATED! It was so fun! Mike bought tickets to go see Game 4 in DC. He isn't going with anyone. He said he will be watching 'with 41K Nats fans.' Hahaha I hope they win for him!

Bad News Day

Today was a long day. Jorja felt miserable and she ended up staying home the entire day. I texted her teachers and they were all really nice about it. Just kind of scary since the quarter ends on Friday. Still, wisdom teeth are not fun. Jorja slept until noon. I hung out with her after that and we watched Kim's Convenience. Sam found out that that she has placental abruption, placental prevue AND placental accreta. Not good. She is only 23 weeks along. They are hoping she makes it to 28 weeks. If she happens to make it to 34 weeks that will be amazing! They will deliver the baby then and Sam will have a hysterectomy. One piece of good news is Sam's doctor is one of the top 2 placenta accreta doctors in the nation.

Maysen had a huge paper due today that she finished and turned in. 40 pages in her long form fiction class. She was super proud of it, so yay!!!

I got a call from Jorja's eye doctor today. Last week when we saw him he said everything was fine. Well, not fine, but the same and we didn't need to see him until December. He called back today and said he had been worried about Jorja and decided to send her file to a neuro-opthomoligist at the University of Utah. He said if they were worried about anything they would probably call and schedule an appointment in a month. Anyway, a couple of hours later they called and said they wanted to see Jorja as soon as possible. Their first available appointment was next Tuesday. She has to go in for 3-5 hours of eye tests. They said her nerves were swollen and causing pressure on her brain. I think they said that they were surrounded in spinal fluid, which I don't know what that means or if I even got that right. I told them I was confused because just a week ago the doctor told us that everything was okay. I asked if they were just being extra cautious with these tests and if she really needed them. They told me that this was a big deal. They are worried that if she gets even one more headache things could escalate quickly and she could permanently lose her vision. What - the - heck??? I don't know if that means losing some of her sight or becoming blind. I'm hoping we go to all these tests and the diagnosis comes back as 'the doctors are big fat worry warts' - because that is a real diagnosis.

Jorja had to work today. She was on call in and thought they wouldn't need her. They ended up having her come in from 5-9. She survived but it wasn't fun. I drove her there because she is on medication where she can't drive right now. When I picked her up we stopped at U-Swirl to get Mallory a yogurt. Mallory got her wisdom teeth out today. I waited in the car outside of Mallory's house while Jorja went in to talk with her. They will be wisdom teeth buddies now. Fun.

Sam called me today. She is in the hospital. The doctors are worried that she has placental abruption. The first hospital told her that they could do nothing for the baby if it was born now and gave her lots of statistics of what a horrible life the baby would have if it did survive. Then they asked Sam if she wanted to be transferred to another hospital where the baby might have a chance but a horrible life. Anyway, Sam has to stay until tomorrow when she will be seen by specialists. Hopefully all is well.

Jorja spent all of the day in bed. She had some friends come and visit her, which made her so happy. The place that took out her wisdom teeth sent her flowers. They were so pretty. Too bad later in the day they got knocked over and spilled water all over her friend Cam.

Jack and Ellie stopped by from student government. Jorja LOVED that. They brought her a smoothie from Jamba Juice. They were so nice and talked to her for a long time. Jack got his wisdom teeth out a few months ago. He did it as a part of a study. Half of the participants get pain medication as they are recovering, half of them get a placebo. Jack is positive he received the placebo. The recovery was awful. He said he's glad he did it now, but he wouldn't want to do it again.

Her friend Mallory stopped by super late at night. Around 10:00 I think. She stayed until 1:00 in the morning. Jorja wasn't tired and had slept most of the day. Me, on the other hand..... I have been sleeping with Jorja, so I just crawled into bed and fell asleep while Mallory was here. She had just come back from Lake Powell, which is why she came so late. She is getting her wisdom teeth out on Monday.

BYU played Boise State today and WON! BYU has only won three games this year, and all of them have been against teams in the top 25. They lost two games to teams they should have destroyed. Anyway, I was watching the game by myself and BYU scored on an amazing trick play. I was cheering and Mike was walking down the hall. I said, "Mike! Hurry you got to see this!" He kept walking at his same speed and said, "I'm good." It annoyed me so bad. I couldn't pause the game, so I couldn't show him the play. It made me so sad. I went from cheering to being really sad in a matter of seconds. I hate that I am alone and no one will enjoy this with me. Mike didn't like that he made me feel sad, but he doesn't understand that he makes me feel like he thinks he is better than me because I like sports. I gave up watching sports for years when the kids were little, but it was such a big part of my childhood and it has been fun getting back into it. This is how I bond with my brothers. We have a group text that we use and text during the games. It is my main interaction with my family. I love that, but sometimes I want to enjoy with someone in the same house as me. It did prompt me to ask Jorja if she would marry someone who liked sports just a little bit so I would have someone to talk to. She would not agree to my stipulation. Anyway, I was watching the football game and following the baseball game on my phone. I didn't have the channel of the Astros/Yankees game. If the Astros won (which they did) they were going to the World Series. I had walked into the guest room to check on Jorja. Mike had spent most of the day with her. I looked down at my phone and said that Altuve was up. He's my favorite player on the Astros and I thought it would be amazing if he hit a walk-off. Which he DID!!!! Anyway, Mike said, "Is he the one that throws the football?" Hahahahahaha Oh my gosh! I hate it that no one enjoys sports with me, but sometimes you get gems like this that will make me laugh for days. BYU scored a touchdown and Altuve hit a walkoff homerun as I was leaving the room. Wow! What a fun day for sports!

Hailey and Spencer came over to see Jorja today. They came separately, but ended up being here at the same time. Spencer brought Jorja a lemonade from Swig.

Jorja felt better toward the end of the day and really wanted to go to U-Swirl. She mostly wanted to get out of the house. Jack was over playing with Preston, so we brought him with us. These two get along so well, I love it.

Stockton had a long day.  He doesn't feel very well.  He fell asleep for a couple of hours and was annoyed with that.  I took Maysen to her vet class today.  She isn't up to driving yet.  Stockton joked about seeing all of his friends at the beach on Instagram while he has his face covered in ice packs.  Not the best Spring break, but it had to be done sometime.

It was Stockton's turn to get his wisdom teeth out today.  His seemed to go faster than Maysen's.  They had to drill, but not as much.  I should have asked if they had to drill on every tooth like they did Maysen's. Stockton liked the fact that his was easier to get out.  He kept telling me in the recovery room that he was 'conscious'.  He also liked the anesthesia.  I am glad they were out for these procedures.  Maysen went to her vet class today.  She is still really sore.  Mike took her to class and my dad picked her up.

Stockton laid in my bed most of the day.  He didn't want to fall asleep because Maysen slept most of the day after her surgery, then had a hard time sleeping at night.  Jorja and Preston kept him entertained by watching a lot of Brain Games with him.  Max came over for awhile. While he was here the kids watched Sharknado.  That is quite the 'movie'.

I had my scouts today.  I was pretty annoyed.  I only have three scouts. I asked all three of the mom's if they would be here during Spring break.  Secretly I was hoping one of them would say no and then I would have an excuse to cancel scouts.  I didn't really want to do it knowing Stockton would be getting his wisdom teeth out today.  All three said they would be here.  I talked to Luke's mom last Monday.  He is turning 9 soon.  I showed her exactly what we needed to do before he turned 9 to get his bear.  One of the things was to have a 'campfire program'.  They boys planned this last week.  Mike spent Saturday getting our backyard ready so we could have a campfire.  I texted all of the mom's yesterday about our plans.  A few hours before scouts was supposed to start Brady's mom texted me and said they were going to the zoo because it was Spring break.  What?  That is totally fine, but I specifically asked if we could do scouts on Spring break.  I was pretty frustrated about that, but it was mostly Luke that needed to pass this off.  Scouts starts.  Judy is here and Eli is here.  About ten minutes later I text Ashley to find out if Luke is coming.  They are driving to California.  What?  Why?  Why couldn't you let me know this?  At a minimum, why couldn't they let me know when I sent the reminder text yesterday?  I wouldn't be as annoyed about this except I specifically asked each of them if they would be here on this date.  I had to have Stockton fend for himself during this time.  Plus, we are not supposed to have scouts with only one boy.  I went and got Preston and he hung out with us so Eli could pass this off.  Grrrrrr.  I did text the mom's with pictures of all the different things we passed off today and asked them to do it as a family.  I don't want to have another scout campfire again.

Maysen's Wisdom Teeth

I took Maysen to get her wisdom teeth out this morning.  Today has been a very long day.  All four teeth ended up being impacted and they had to drill all four out.  She is miserable.  I almost started crying when they took me back to see her.  The kids were hoping for a funny video while she was under anesthesia, but she couldn't really talk anyways.  I sent Mike a picture after I got her home and in bed.  She looks so much better here!

Maysen slept most of the day, with me coming down to change her icepack every twenty minutes.  She has always had a hard time taking medicine.  We tried using pudding to help her, that didn't work very well.  What finally worked was bread.  When she would take the pill and then a piece of bread, she was able to swallow the pill.  It also got something in her stomach, so I was happy about that.  Towards the end of the day Maysen wanted to come upstairs.  Once she stood up she was really nauseous.  She threw up the rest of the day.  Poor girl.  Plus her throw up was mostly blood.  I'm glad she will never have to do this again!

Stockton said, "The worst thing is knowing this will be me in a few days!"  Yep.  Stockton is getting his wisdom teeth out on Monday.  Not fun to know what you will be in for.

I made a mad dash to the store to pick up Maysen's medicine.  I wanted to get some ice-cream too.  I saw this.  Non-Dairy Ben & Jerry's.  How cool is that?  Too bad two of the flavors have nuts that would kill Blake anyway.  (Hopefully not.  Hopefully it would just make him really sick.) Hopefully the fudge brownie one doesn't have eggs, and hopefully they will get more flavors like this.  I'll have to get it to try it out on Anne sometime.  Lots of 'hopefully' with allergies.  I am so glad this has not been my trial.  Poor Larkin, Blake and Anne!
