BEST NEWS EVER!

We weren't supposed to have any school today. But.....because we had a snow day a bit ago, this is the day that was chosen as a make up day. Too bad we had plans to go to the cabin. I had Jorja go to the first part of school. I checked her out at the end of math. While I was waiting at Alta for Jorja, Becky texted the ward missionary mom's chat. She sent a link to an announcement from the church. I opened it up and read it while I was waiting. I started crying. Tears were coming down my face. The church announced that missionaries could call home EVERY p-day! WHAT????? I couldn't believe it. As long as I've been alive they have only been allowed to call home four times in two years. Now I can talk to Stockton every week? Talk about perfect timing for me! I had been idling outside of the school, but I hurried and parked so I could go inside. I ran inside the school and found Jorja. She had already heard. I was absolutely thrilled! I can't even believe how much easier this will be. I hope Stockton writes just as much. I want him to have a record of his mission, and he is such an engaging writer. I'm just so excited to hear his voice throughout his entire mission.

I texted Alex's mom when we got home and she brought her over. Mike had already left with Preston. Jorja, Alex and I drove to Logan to pick up Maysen. We went to lunch at Angie's. Yummy.

Mike texted me these pictures so show how much snow is at the cabin. He had to dig the garage out so he could get to the 4-wheelers. He said that while he was bringing Preston up they saw a cloud. It came fast and all of a sudden they were in the middle of a huge storm. He warned us that at some point the weather might get crazy.

Well, Mike was right. The weather was crazy! I put the cabin address into maps and followed where it told me to go. I so regretted not spending an extra 30 minutes to go back to I15. Maps took us by Bear Lake and down tiny roads. We were driving through some canyon and got stuck behind a huge semi. The semi was going 5 miles an hour. The roads were great too! There was a caravan of about forty cars. We cheered when we were finally able to pass it. (The semi pulled over after slowing down everyone for thirty minutes.) We didn't get much farther until the snow hit. Once we were at Montpelier the roads turned awful. I white knuckled it for about two hours. I was so happy to finally see the Star Valley Temple. I was even happier when we finally arrived. The pilot has 4-wheel drive, but the bug has better tires. We slid several times. I could barely see in front of me lots of the time. It was a scary, scary drive. So glad we are all safe at the cabin now! What a relief!

Right after Stockton left for his mission I saw this pillow at Smiths. Wow! How perfect! Now every cactus reminds me of Stockton. When I came back from dropping Jorja off at school, this was on my bed. What a perfect Valentines Day present.

Today was also Stockton's p-day! Yay! Yay! Yay! He got our brownies package and loved it. He also got a package from Preston that made him really happy. For scouts they made missionary packages and Preston left him a nice note in it. Stockton sounds great. He says the MTC has flown by. He really likes his companion, Elder Womack. One funny thing is Elder Womack hates elevators. They make him lightheaded. Stockton takes the stairs with him to their classroom. On the 5th floor. Which is 120 stairs each way, so about 1000 stairs a day. His math makes me laugh. Especially when he was talking about taking a knife and figuring out the volume of the cereal dispenser and the bowl then converting cubic knives to bowls. Hahaha. That kid cracks me up! We also got an email from the mission in Arizona. It had Stockton's schedule for the first two days he will be here. I loved that! Mike said that is much better than being dropped off in the middle of Brazil and having to sleep on a church floor for a week while looking for a place to stay. Yikes! Stockton sent this picture of him and his friend John. The guy in the middle is the choir director. He has also directed the Mormon Tabernacle Choir before, as a guest director I think. Stockton said he and John were taking a picture when this guy stepped right in between them. Haha! Stockton is going to miss running into John. I'm glad they had each other up at Utah State. They really got along well.

Jorja went with some of the student government kids after school to a retirement home. They had a dance. She got to dance with old people. She said it was so much fun. When she came home, Evan's mom pulled up right behind her. Evan, Drew and Shafer had brought her flowers and a blanket. They had a card that said they hoped she started feeling better. Jorja has missed a lot of school with her mono. Student government with Shafer is the first class of the day on A days and Chinese with Evan is the first class of the day on B days. The first class is for sure the hardest for her to make it to. I think Jorja vented to Evan a few days ago about how tired she was of being sick. She told me that she doesn't even remember what it feels like to be healthy anymore. Drew called her when we were driving to Wicked yesterday to check up on her. These boys are really good to her. Especially Evan and Drew. Drew is a huge reason why Jorja was elected her freshman year. He campaigned for her so hard. He was not shy and is hilarious. He made a big difference. Evan was Jorja's rock last year. Especially when her heart was broken. Evan was there for her. Evan is my favorite. He is such a good kid. They made Jorja's day today. She absolutely loves the blanket they brought her, but I didn't get a picture of it.

Jorja had a date with Mitchell today. This is the kid she wrote me a long note about begging me to let her have a date with him. She told me that they talked and agreed they would just be friends so they could hang out together. Mitchell brought her flowers, chocolate and a card. Hmmmm. Very friendly. Just kidding. It is Valentines Day, so that was nice of him.

Mitchell took Jorja to get sushi and then they went to a movie. She seemed to have a great time and Mike and I were both very happy that she made her curfew.

Jorja came into our room and was telling us about her date. I asked her a question, which I can't even remember what it was now. (I'm about two weeks behind on the blog. Ugh.) Anyway, we ended up getting into an argument. I don't even know how that happened. I didn't want it to happen and it wasn't my intention. I made her sad after she had had such a good day. Jorja asked if she could talk to Mike alone for awhile. I left them alone for about 30 minutes. I wish Jorja and I could get our relationship back. I just need her to be 100% honest with me. I know she hides things because she thinks about Mitchell because she knows I don't like him. I don't like him because she isn't honest with me about him. Which makes her hide things, which makes me mad. It's a vicious cycle. We are both tired of it. I really didn't mean to make her mad today.

Stockton's district was assigned to help the new missionaries arriving at the MTC. Andrew arrived at the MTC today. He is my cousin Justin's boy. How cool would it have been if Stockton were the one to help Andrew out of the car? It would have been awesome! Too bad it didn't happen. Look how cute Stockton looks though.

Mike gave me a super cool present for Christmas and my birthday. He's letting me go on a tour to Israel with my dad in November and I'm super excited about it. I also got Wicked tickets to go with Jorja. I have been looking forward to this for a long time. Too bad mono hit again. I tried to get her out the door earlier, but she kept falling asleep. I was hoping to go to a cool restaurant, like The Cheesecake Factory. By the time I could get her up we just ended up going to Arbys. Oh well. I hate mono.

Right as I was parking I got a phone call from Alex's mom. We are planning a trip to the cabin this weekend with Mike's family. We just barely found out that both Miah and Weston won't be able to be there. I told Jorja she could invite a friend. Today I found out Maysen and Michael were planning on coming. Whoops. I'm not sure if I would have had Jorja invite a friend if I realized that. Anyway, Jorja chose to invite Alex. She is the freshman class Vice President. Jorja told me that last year when she was struggling and having a hard time feeling like she fit in, if a sophomore officer would have invited her on a trip with their family she would have been so happy. She wanted to do this for Alex, besides the fact that she really likes her too. I have never met Alex's parents. I talked to her mom right as we parked. She said that Abram, Alex's older brother, told them that Jorja is the best and he highly supports this trip. Haha. Abram is funny. He is very dramatic and always tells Jorja he would die for her. It makes me happy that people think so highly of Jorja. Abram was convincing enough that Alex's parents agreed she could come without even meeting us. That was pretty cool.

I loved Wicked. A funny thing happened there. Jorja and I were going towards our seats. We passed a family and the mom reached up and grabbed my hand. I looked down and she said, "Are you a Millburn?" She looked familiar, but I couldn't place her. When I said I was she told me she was JERI MILLER! What the heck? I was sitting right next to Jeri Miller! I have known Jeri her entire life. She was in my ward, but I think she was about five years younger than me. She was there with her husband Blake and her four kids. It was awesome. About the same time Jeri asked me if I was a Millburn, we heard someone yell Jorja's name. It was Dessa! She was a few rows behind us. Funny thing is both Jeri and Dessa said they recognized my voice first. Ha! Who knew I had that distinctive of a voice?

The sad thing about today is I only got two pictures. Jorja took a Snapchat of us, but when I tried to take a screenshot of it I accidentally closed my phone instead. Whoops. Look at this first lovely picture. So glad I'll always have this memory.

One more super cool thing that happened today. Jorja was contacted by the Taiwan people. They want to have a Skype interview with her in March! That is so exciting! I hope this works out. We hadn't heard from these people since she had her application in several weeks ago. Most of the application was in Chinese, so we were kind of worried she had done something wrong. So glad to see her move to the next step. Should be exciting!

Teresa's moving to Texas! I can't believe it! Jerome got a new job out there. At least it is closer to me, but it is still soooo far away. How I wish she lived here. I hope she loves it out there. She's the best!

I got frustrated with Jorja today. She had the day off work and was assigned to go to a basketball game down in Provo. Mr. Packer ended up not making them go. Instead of going to Young Women's she chose to take Gabe's shift. I know he needed it covered, but Jorja has only made it to two Young Women's activities since she turned 16. It frustrates me. Jorja got really upset that I was asking her to think before she switched things. She said she was a terrible daughter etc. etc. I wish she would let me correct her without getting so upset. How is she going to know that I don't want her to do this if I'm too afraid to tell her? Anyway..... grrrrr.....

Jorja also was humiliated over an Instagram post. Jorja's sweethearts date has a girlfriend right now. One of this girl's friends commented on Jorja's post and she felt a little awkward about it. Then someone sent Jorja a different Instagram post. Conner's girlfriend goes to a different school and they ended up having their dance the same day. She went with someone and this boy posted about it. He thanked the 'random Alta girl' for asking Conner before she had a chance to ask him.... it's kind of hard to explain and I don't want to put the screenshot Jorja sent me here, she was just really embarrassed. It's too bad too. She had a great time at the dance. Those two are good friends and everything stayed that way. Which is what they both wanted. Now she kind of feels embarrassed about something she shouldn't be embarrassed about. I know these people were trying to be funny, but it hurt my little girl. Probably bothered her more than normal since she already was upset because of me. Highschool is fun.

Sick and Sleepy

Jorja didn't make it to school on time today. I could not get her up. It is easy to tell the difference when the mono is the problem and when she just doesn't want to wake up. Today was 100% mono. I think she overdid it on Saturday and is now paying the price. I called and talked to my best friends at the attendance office. I told them she is going to try and check in at the end of 5th period. Well.....she missed all of 5th and all of advisory. She did get there in time for math, but I had to call the attendance office and change her time.

I finally finished Stockton's brownies and MAILED them! Yay! He will get one package from us while he is at the MTC! Even though I started working on the brownies last Monday, they still tasted great. They are Stockton's favorite.

Preston came home from school sick today. His throat is pretty red and hurting. Hopefully he'll be able to sleep it off. It feels like he has been sick a lot lately. Mike made me laugh today. I took a picture and sent it to Jorja. This was our conversation:

I was up really late talking to Jorja. She wrote me this long letter asking if she could go out with Mitchell on Valentine's Day. I am very anti Mitchell. Mostly because how things started with him, which involved Jorja lying to me. I can not stand being lied to. Instead of grounding her from everyone, I just grounded her from Mitchell. She begged me to let her go out with him on Valentine's Day. She promised to keep her room clean, get her grades up, talk to me about everything, not kiss him, and do anything I want her to do. I actually prayed about this. I still don't feel good about Mitchell, but I felt it was okay to let her go out on this date with him. I hope I don't regret this.

Jorja got her Sweethearts pictures today. School dances are sure different now. They don't do pictures at the school. The kids pick a place and take the pictures themselves. I think that is a much better idea. Jorja's group went up to the capitol to take the pictures.

The girls also took pictures of different groups. Like 'student body officer girls', 'senior class girls', 'senator girls', 'junior class girls'. Jorja didn't have a group. She told me she joked and had them take a 'sophomore class girls' picture where she was the only one in it, but I haven't seen it. She thought about getting a picture with Carson. He is Maggie's date and is the sophomore Vice President. She was too nervous to ask though. She thought it would look too much like a date picture. I don't think Carson would have cared, he is super nice.

Jorja was pretty tired today. I think yesterday wore her out. After church Jordyn came over to do the Librarian's Almanac with us. I was missing Maysen and Stockton during this. They would have been so good! It was really fun and such a huge puzzle! I took a picture of the finished puzzle, but for spoiler reasons I am not putting it on here. It was fun to have Jordyn hang out with us today.

Amazing Race - Sweethearts Edition

Jorja had her Sweethearts dance today. Mike and I planned the day date activity. The Amazing Race. It was amazing. Jorja was pretty stressed about it though. The girls in student government all formed a group for this dance. Jorja is the youngest. The freshman didn't go and Jorja is the only sophomore girl. She felt awkward being in charge of the day date. This morning she got a text on the group chat asking why they were dressing up in colors. Jorja wrote back that they didn't have to, she just thought it would be fun. Luckily almost immediately the other girls chimed in that they were planning on dressing up in their colors. That made Jorja feel a lot better. The girl that has complained about the day date all along is one of Jorja's good friends. She has complained about the price, the shirts and driving separately. She wrote back that she forgot to get shirts. Her color would have been dark blue. She and her date showed up wearing black, which was Jorja's color. Jorja was a little annoyed about that, but oh well. The day date was a success and everyone seemed to have a ton of fun, even the girl who complained about everything during the planning stage. Jorja was relieved. She was so worried that the senior girls wouldn't have a fun day date for their last Sweethearts. At least this was something different.

We started the day at 9:30, and were hoping to have the teams up and racing by 9:45. Mike had put together a schedule of when he guessed the teams would be at different locations. They were speedy! All the teams finished about an hour ahead of how long we thought it would take them. Mike and I had even taken out some of the challenges because we didn't think there would have been enough time. Turns out we could have sent them to Nicklecade and on a model adventure. That would have been fun. I think they liked time to unwind with pizza at the end. It was better than having to rush out the door so the girls could get ready. Anyway, here is Jorja on her way out to get Conner.

Mike set up the straw and eggs this morning, Jorja wasn't allowed to go in the kitchen. She's been kicked out of the kitchen for most of this week. As soon as Jorja left, Mike and I hurried to get up the lock station at the church. Right as we finished we saw some teams pull up. We booked it out of there. The kids were asked to park at the church and walk to our house. About four teams had arrived, hopefully they didn't notice us. I don't think they did or they probably would have parked closer to the baseball diamond.

We had Jorja take pictures of each of the teams and then they wrote their names on them. We were in such a rush to get started that two of the teams pictures didn't come out. If we only knew how speedy these teams were going to be, we would have waited for that to finish. It's okay, we had them sign their picture when they got back.

The kids met downstairs, got their pictures taken and then Mike explained the rules for the race. Mike made these cool envelopes to hold the clues. He used Alta's school colors instead of the traditional Amazing Race colors. The envelopes didn't rip open as well as we hoped, but the kids survived.

The first challenge was Preston's idea. It was building marshmallow catapults and then shooting a marshmallow into your partners mouth. Mike had set up everything upstairs, so the kids just had to run up there to start....although a few of them got excited and ran outside.

Mike had hid ten eggs in the straw. The kids had to climb out the living room window to get here. The eggs were kind of hard to find. Poor Kassie was the first one finished with the marshmallow challenge and the last one to find her egg. The ducks had fun playing in the straw too. 

Mike had written a combination on each egg with the 'secret agent pen'. The teams had to run down to the church with their egg, figure out where their combination was written and find the correct lock to get their next clue. That was pretty cool.

Jordyn was waiting at the library for the next challenge. We used the Declaration of Independence puzzle that Chad made up a few years ago. Jorja had a really hard time with that one and it put them far behind. She was having a bit of trouble with her vision and couldn't focus on the words very well. The words were hard to see. Mike and I even made it bigger than when Chad used it. Still it was tough.

When they found the answer, they were supposed to stick a pin in the X. There was a map on the back and the pin showed the next location, which was Buttercup Park. Mike had a cow milking station there. Unfortunately we were unable to figure out how to get them to milk real cows, so this is what we came up with.

Once they finished that, they received their next clue along with puzzle boxes. The McPuzzled was their next clue. The Detour comes next. I should have put the two detour clues together. Whoops.

There was a note on the back of the puzzle that told the teams to text a selfie to me and they would receive their next clue. This is what I sent them.

I did have a slight problem. The racers were so far ahead of schedule that my two helpers weren't going to be at the mall yet, so I had no way to get both animals to the spot I needed. I ran down to the animal place and missed the first puzzle texts coming in. Whoops. I did get everything set up with the animal lady. I handed her my drivers license and credit cards and told her the kids were ahead of schedule. I asked her if I could settle things when they finished. She was awesome about it, so that was a relief!

There was a big difference between the racers at the beginning and the ones at the end. The ones at the beginning were taking it very seriously. They were choosing things based on time. Two teams got U-turned right away. Kenedy & Bryn and Maggie & Carson. I didn't have the animals yet, so they had to go with me and ride the animals farther than we anticipated. They were good sports about it though.

Kassie & Nick and Jorja & Conner were way behind everyone else. They seemed to be in no hurry. It was funny. When Jorja and Conner got to the mall Jordyn and I cheered and chanted for her.

Conner & Jorja spent a bit of time trying to figure out what to do. Neither one wanted to make a decision. I totally thought Jorja would pick the photo booth. She LOVES photo booths. I should have given her the $5 and told her to do both since they were already so far behind.

There was an address in the next clue. It sent them to Maggie's house. I wish I would have heard Maggie's reaction when she saw her own address! There was a name puzzle set up there that turned out pretty cool. This is where the race was won. Maggie and Carson were the fourth team to this station. Carson nailed that puzzle and they were the first team to leave. No one could catch them after that. Carson is the sophomore Vice President. His brother Keller is on the white team. I laughed because it was probably really frustrating for Keller to have his little brother pull ahead of him there. When Mike was interviewing the teams at the end Carson said, "We did an awesome puzzle." and Keller said, "We did an impossible puzzle." Hahaha. I thought that was so funny!

The next stop was our house for the last challenge. A memory challenge. Mike said Maggie and Carson were so excited when they got here. They were also excited when they saw this was a memory challenge. Carson yelled, "We wrote it all down!" Maggie said, "This is not our first rodeo." Haha!

I left the mall and went to pick up the pizza Mike had ordered. Many of the teams were already finished when I got home. Mike took pictures of the first team doing their memory challenge, and I was able to get pictures of Jorja and Conner, the last team. When Mike made the video he edited it so it looked like it was a race between the pink and black team. Hahaha!

I'm super glad Maggie and Carson won. They were totally into it. They went all out with their pink color and both of them are huge fans of the race. They were fun to watch and were so excited to win. I wish we had had time to get a proper trophy and finish mat. Oh well.....

The teams had pizza and just relaxed for awhile before they left. I think the picture below is funny because it looks like Conner has a flat head. Like it is a picture that got cut off. Little things amuse me. I think Isaiah is pointing to Lexi (?) and Conner and saying how both of them beat him in the elections. Jorja took Conner home. She laughed about how when he was going through his garage she honked her horn and made him jump. Conner takes Jorja home from school every A day. He always honks at her as he is driving away. I think Jorja's horn is quite a bit louder though.

Once Jorja got home, she took off all of her day makeup and put on her fancier makeup. Who knew there were different kinds of makeup? Cori set up an appointment with her daughter-in-law who does hair for weddings. She was in Draper, but we didn't realize how far away she actually lived. Yikes! Scoop and Cori were both there. I left and picked up Jorja's boutonniere. We were really glad we didn't need to pick that up on the way home. Jorja's hair looked beautiful, but we were really pressed for time. I drove Jorja's bug home. Jorja climbed in the back and changed into her dress in the back of the bug. Haha!

Jorja said Sophie answered the door when she went to pick up Conner. Jorja was friends with Sophie before she even knew Conner. They were in the same orchestra class. Jorja was in 8th grade and Sophie was a 6th grader. Sophie was the first person Jorja told that she wanted to run for student government. When Sophie answered the door she yelled, "I got to see her before you did!" That made Jorja laugh. Here are some random pictures I got off of Jorja's phone.

Jorja was excited that she wasn't the last to arrive. The girls met at the drivers ed parking lot. Abbey had a 12 passenger van. Jorja rode in that up to Salt Lake. They took pictures up at the capitol, then had dinner at Braza Grill.

Jorja has been struggling to eat lately. She will be starving, have one bite and immediately feel sick. Luckily that didn't happen today. She was able to eat a lot and not get sick. Yay for small miracles! I was worried she would have a hard time at the dance, but she said she did okay. She didn't go into the crazy middle like she usually does. When she was leaving she texted me to look at her stories on Snapchat. She posted this video. I tried to take a few screenshots from the video. It doesn't look like these guys had a good time at all.

Conner & Jorja

Mike worked on putting together an Amazing Race video from the second the teams left our house until the dance was over. He finished just in time for us to go meet them at their after activity. They rented out Park 5, which I guess is a drink/icecream place. Mike took a tv off our wall down there. That worked out well. It wouldn't have been as fun to watch it around someone's phone. Here are all the kids gathered around watching the video.

Notice Jorja's shirt. She said she has worn that shirt in every after dance activity. Nice tradition.

Amazing Race - Sweethearts Edition

The kids then went to Kassie's house and played games for another hour. Wow. What a long day! Jorja had a great time though. I'm so glad the weather cooperated and that everything turned out how she hoped it would. What a day!
