Random Photos

I did laundry all day long. Super exciting. I took Preston to diving too. That's about it, but here are random pictures I found on Jorja's phone.

Mike had a long day at work today. There were some computer issues and he ended up staying until close to ten at night. Jorja and Mike had planned to make bread, so that didn't work out. Maysen had a final today for Consumer Behavior. It will be nice for her to have one less class to worry about for the rest of the semester.

Called to Serve

Ahhhh!!!! Stockton texted me this today. He has his mission call! He is planning on not opening it until Saturday and he can be with us. Talk about willpower! I'm so excited for him. He was planning on coming home this weekend to open it. Maysen made a joke that he should open it at the cabin. Now he is trying to figure out if he could make that work. Like he wrote on his blog, "The cabin is probably the most special place in the world to me, and this is probably going to be the most special experience I'll have at this point in my life. How amazing would it be to be able to put the two together? It's a total once-in-a-lifetime thing." That makes me happy that he thinks so highly of the cabin. I have always loved it there too. I figure this is Stockton's deal. We will be there wherever he wants to open it. I'm so excited, proud, terrified and a little sad. So many conflicting emotions right now. This is going to be an exciting weekend for our family!
Kelsee also got her call today. She opened it up at 8:30. Megan Bradley printed it out for her. I used my excellent photo shop skills and blacked out Kelsee's address. Pretty proud of myself. Kelsee was so nervous she started crying right away. She had to try over and over to read her call. Stockton was watching on Instagram live, but couldn't understand where she was going. She barely choked out Indiana, Indianapolis. That's Brett's mission! And my cousin Paul's too I think.
People at Kelsee's house were super excited to hear Stockton has his call. They couldn't believe he was waiting until Saturday. Stockton told me a bit before he got his call that he will have four months or so to know where he is going, he wants to enjoy not knowing for a bit longer. Thinking about it that way has made it easier for me to wait too.

Jorja the Cheerleader

Jorja sent me this text. The black locker is hers. Haha. She is not a cheerleader and she is not named Hunter. Actually Hunter is a boy. The cheer moms put these decals on the different lockers for the cheerleaders. Many lockers have the same number, so you have to figure out which hall it belongs to. I could see how they could make this mistake. Still, super funny. Jorja sent a direct message to him on Instagram with this picture. He asked if she would be willing to change lockers so he wouldn't have to bother the team moms. He was nice about it though, he told her no pressure and he would understand if she didn't want to change. Jorja doesn't want to change because all of the student government kids have their lockers together. She has been looking forward to that, especially after last year. The freshman officers don't have their lockers with the others because they are elected after school starts. She had such a hard time going to her locker last year because there was a group of people that she felt hated her that would meet a few lockers away. She feels accepted by the student government kids, so there was no chance she was giving that up.

First Official Day of School

The first thing we did this morning was see if the ducks would fly to the pool. Wow. They are getting much better. I wonder if they are going to fly away this winter?
Jorja and Preston had their first official day of school today. Preston has seven class periods every day. Jorja has A day and B day, four different classes on each day. Jorja had to be to school at 6:50 this morning. All the student government kids were stationed at different doors to welcome the kids back to school. She had to wear her student government golf shirt. She hates it. She ordered extra small and it is big on her. She always has to pull it up while she is wearing it. That's too bad, she loved the shirts from last year. I got a quick picture of the two kids before Jorja left.

I finally bought Preston his own backpack. He has been using Jorja's pink frog backpack for years.
When we signed Preston up for classes last spring, we were told that there was no honors math or English classes for sixth grade. At back to school night I introduced Preston to his math teacher. I said something like, "I know there is no honors math classes this year . . ." Ms. Oglesby interrupted me then and said there was. I was stunned. How is Preston not in the honors classes? She said they added the classes and sent home a different form. The parents had to sign it to request they be put in the honors class. I don't remember seeing any form like that. I talked to one of my other friends who had a child in Preston's class. She never saw anything like that either. I couldn't believe Preston fell through the cracks already. I told Ms. Oglesby that traditionally my kids have a really hard time in the regular classes. She assured me he would be fine. I could tell that she thought I was just a mom who thought too highly of her kids. Anyway, when Preston came home from school today he said, "Ms. Oglesby says you can put me in honors math." Preston thought she remembered us from a few days ago. After talking to him awhile I found out that they did a pretest that they were supposed to finish at home. He was the only one to finish and he finished five minutes early. At least it didn't take her long to agree that honors math was the place he should be. Honestly, I don't know how he is at math. I have no idea if he'll be like Stockton. I do know that he never struggles in math and honors is the place he should be.

Jorja's classes today were student government, math, English and theater. I don't know who I am anymore. I actually checked Jorja out of school, on the first day, to get her hair done! What the heck???? I couldn't believe it myself! I checked her out after lunch, so she just missed theater. Kelsee put highlights in Jorja's hair at the beginning of the year. Kelsee only has one week left of beauty school, so Jorja begged me to get an appointment with her. Jorja wanted to have her hair touched up and she wanted to ask Kelsee questions about how to take care of her hair. Kelsee is putting her mission papers in on Friday. I tried to get an after school appointment, but she was completely booked. Jorja talked to Struks (the theater teacher) yesterday and she told Jorja she would be fine.

Kelsee does a fantastic job. Jorja's hair turned out beautiful.
Jorja wanted more pictures with Preston after school.
 I love these two!
Last year was the first year that everyone in student government got the same sweater. Previously each grade would design their own. Now there are so many different people with sweaters. The theater team has sweaters, the band team, the voice teams, the art group. Lots of different people. Packer didn't like it. He is the student government advisor. He wanted people to know who they could ask questions to. If someone new asked a question to someone on the art team, they might be rude and it would reflect badly on student government. That was his reasoning anyway. I love it because these sweaters are expensive. We had to pay $140 last year. This year Jorja turned in her sweater after the election. They got it cleaned for her and she now has it back with her new office written on top. She was hoping that they would write out sophomore, because she thought it might look weird since public relations is so long. They put Soph. but I think it turned out great.
Stockton also started college today! Ahhhh! It's not his real first day. He has a connections class that will last three days. It is basically an orientation to Utah State class. He gets two credits out of it too. That is nice. Especially since he needs to take fifteen credits for his scholarship, it's great to get two knocked out of the way before school even starts.

Big Rock

Jorja and I met Kelsee this morning for a haircut. I'm going to miss Kelsee when she goes on her mission! She sure has been nice to Jorja.

Jorja and I met Sherry and Miah at the outlets. Sherry helped Jorja pick out some clothes because she has a lot more style than I have. She also made me buy some new jeans. I do need them. It will be nice to have them when we go to Alaska. I had so much fun hanging out with them today. I think it was really nice for Jorja and Miah to have this day long shopping adventure before EFY starts on Monday. I think they are going to have a great time together. Jorja and Miah are a lot alike, but I think Jorja enjoys being around people more than Miah does. Haha. We ate lunch at Blaze Pizza and it was delicious. I even took a picture.

While Jorja was at work I talked Stockton into going to the Fort Union Target with me to get some shorts for Jorja. They didn't have the right size at the other store. There was a Pizza Hut there, so Stockton got pizza and a slushy. The slushy exploded on him. I laughed and laughed. I don't know why I can't full justify this paragraph, but it is going to annoy me to know end that this is centered. I will just have to live with it.
Stockton
Stockton and I went to Chick-Fil-A and got frozen strawberry lemonades while we waited for Jorja to finish. We came home and they played with ducks. I cleaned out the gross cage. Mike had cleaned it out before he left, but the ducks are getting bigger that the cage gets grosser faster.
Jorja
Mike sent me pictures of their adventures today. He took the kids in the sailboat across the lake. The motor ran out on the other side, so they truly had to rely on the sail to get back.

I don't like this video AT ALL!
Preston on a hunter's stand. Way too high for my taste.
Maysen doesn't enjoy river rafting. Mike didn't pressure her to go yesterday when Sharon offered. Sharon sent this picture of their adventure yesterday. It is the first time they have flipped a boat in 12 years. Good thing Maysen wasn't on it. That would have done her in for good!
I hear the water is high and super fast right now. We are planning on running the river in a few weeks. Hopefully it has tamed down a bit by then!

Highlights

I finally got my family to fill out the brackets for March Madness. We hadn't watched any games, so even though we were late it was still okay. I'm over a week late putting this in, so I can tell you all of our brackets are disastrous.
I picked with dice roll. The white die was the team closest to A in the alphabet.
The black die was the team closest to Z. A tie switched the dice and I rolled again.
I made Mike redo this bracket.
He still missed some. Look at Florida and Texas Tech!
Stockton filled his out with dice roll and using exponents. Lowest roll won.
Preston was with dice roll, and the only one to pick UMBC. He was so excited!
 Jorja
Jorja wanted to get highlights in her hair. We had Kelsee do it. I had no idea it would take three hours! Crazy how long it takes. At least I brought a book. I'm reading Inkheart for Preston's book club.
Jorja before
Jorja was shocked how blond she looked. She said she has never wanted to be blond. I told her it just looked like she had been out in the sun for the summer. I think the salon's lights made her hair look more blond than it was. I think she is going to like it.
