Walk-On?

I went and watched Stockton in the diving showcase. The swimmers would do a race and then they would all pause and watch the divers. That is cool because when they used to have dive and swim together, they would do it at the same time and it was really distracting. Each diver was able to do three dives. Stockton did a dive on each board. He did the new dive he learned, but my favorite was his platform dive.

105c ~ 2 1/2 tuck ~ this one was my favorite!
When Ted was announcing Stockton's dive he said, "Reverse 2 1/2. The same dive Gavin just did, but on the 1 meter . . . which makes it harder." I can't describe his tone of voice, but it was so funny.

The University of Utah head diving coach was 'judging' the meet, along with Ted who also happens to be the assistant coach for the U. Richard told Stockton that he could find a spot for him on the team. He said he had already given out all of his scholarships, but he could be a walk-on. WHAT???? So cool, but I wish he had known about this months ago. He let his U of U scholarship go and accepted the Utah State one. I told Ted that we were always under the impression that he wasn't good enough to dive in college. Ted said that he definitely is good enough. He even came up to me a few days later and apologized for dropping the ball with Stockton on the college recruitment. It wasn't his fault. We switched to the U in the fall, so Stockton just fell through the cracks. It still was the best decision for Stockton. I'm so glad he finished up with Ted and was able to end his diving career on a high note. I wonder how far Stockton could have gone if we had gone to the U three years ago. That was our plan, but Stockton's friend Josh insisted on going to the Y. Stockton decided to go with Josh. Josh lasted three months and then quit for good. Stockton is so loyal, so we were stuck driving up to Provo all the time. The U was a much better fit for Stockton. He got along with the divers better and Ted understood how Stockton thinks. Stockton has had the best time and is really going to miss it. Still, what do you do? Do you choose scholarship or opportunity? I think Stockton is going to go with scholarship. Richard and Ted talked to him for a long time about the doors being a collegiate athlete would open. If only this was on the table earlier.

Jorja had her last full day at EFY and seemed to have a great time. She loves the dances and they had one tonight. Here are some pictures I found on her phone.

Somehow she always manages to get people to hold her in group photos.

We played Stockton Apples to Apples today. It was so much fun. Stockton made this game years ago. The kids remembered most of the inside jokes, but there were a few . . . well, one, that they have no idea what the card is referring to. I dominated the first game, but was thrashed the second.

Touring the U

My little Porge is super sick. Stockton said he put a ton of blankets on her during the night. I brought her phone down to her close to noon. I knew she had been waiting for a message from Ebony. I was about to leave with Stockton and I hadn't seen her all day. She was still sleeping and felt very warm. She moved upstairs on the couch and I fixed her an acai bowl before I left. She was still like this when I came home. I took her temperature after she had a bit of the milkshake I brought her. It was over 101 degrees. She felt dizzy every time she stood up. I'm guessing she has the flu. She missed her first softball game of the new season. I hope she is better tomorrow.
Poor sick little Porgie
Stockton and I went down to Salt Lake and toured the University of Utah. The tour is long. It is a walking tour and takes about 2 1/2 hours. It is good to get a feel of a place before you make a decision. Stockton is very familiar with the diving pool, but it was good for him to see the rest of campus. I'm trying to take him on tours earlier than I took Maysen so we can space them out a bit. So far we have been to Utah State now the U. I'll have to start scheduling others soon. I meant to get SUU this summer, but didn't get around to it.

Utah Honors College Tour

Maysen and I toured the University of Utah's Honors Building today. It was a pretty cool setup.  The building was built in 2012.  I remember watching it being built when I would take Stockton to diving up there. The Honors advisors are on the main floor of the building along with a few classrooms, a lobby area and a small cafe.  Honors dorms are up above.  We were able to go in one.  Maysen said when she walked in she almost started to cry.  They were so nice.  We saw a four person room. Two people have their own room and two people share.  They have a kitchen and a small bar and a small living room.  There is a huge window in the living room that overlooks the entire campus.  At least it did in this room.  It looks like a housekeeper comes and cleans the rooms twice a month, but I'm not positive about that.  The laundry is free.  There is even an app that will tell you when your laundry is done and if the machines are being used.  How cool would it be to just go downstairs to your classes. Maysen and I are still planning on taking a tour of the main University of Utah campus, but today the U made a strong argument for itself!

Maysen and I went straight from the tour to statistics.  We were about ten minutes late, but we did the best we could.  I hung out at Dee's while she was in class.  I didn't have my books, so I spent my time on my phone trying to look up information about the building we toured today.  That is why I think they have a housekeeper, but I'm not sure. I'm never 100% positive about information when I find it on my phone. I feel more comfortable looking at a laptop.
