Idaho Falls Fireworks

I have been procrastinating writing this entry because I have so many pictures! Now I have dug myself into a hole and am now a week behind. Anyways, we started today up at the cabin. I bought a little kid toy at the store. Jeff liked watching his dad play it.

Terry and Debie had a barbecue at their house. Mike and Stockton got there first. They came from Utah. It was fun to see some cousins. I didn't get to talk to many, but I saw Terry, Tammi, Jordyn, Courtney, Jason, Steve, Sharon and Renee. There were lots of people there. Terry and Debie set up a slip and slide. The kids had a great time. Preston had the bright idea to play a mini game with the kids as the bowling pins. They had so much fun doing that. Marie kept getting pummeled, but she took it like a champ.

We hung out at Terry and Debie's for a long time. Debie had to leave and we were still there when she came back. She was surprised and said, "You are still here?" I told her we had no where to go. I did get to talk to Missy for a bit. Missy lives in Texas now and I haven't seen her for a long time. My kids found the playroom upstairs and had fun making a lego Mario Party board. Preston won.

I have wanted to see the Idaho Falls fireworks show (put on by Melaleuca) for a long time. Everyone would say how amazing they were. First we stopped by Walmart and got some food and games to bring there. We followed Matt and Sam and drove and drove on fields for the parking. All I could think of was, "We are never getting out of here." We laid out our blankets near Sam's family. I was surprised. I thought everyone would stay at Terry and Debie's until it was time to go to the fireworks and we would all sit together. Oh well. I'm sure Sam loved sitting by her family and it was nice of them to save a space for us. We played a Brain Games board game while we waited. The fireworks were really pretty, and we had a great view.
We tried to hurry out as soon as we could. Mike took Maysen, Jorja and Preston in the jeep. My dad took me, Stockton and Max. We were able to pull out of our spot and drive about 20 feet. Then we were stuck there for two hours. It took us two hours to get out of the parking lot. Brett and Rachel watched from the other side of the river and were able to get all the way back to the cabin (about an hour and a half away) before we were even out of the parking lot. I was glad I was riding with my dad. I wanted to make sure he stayed awake. We got back to the cabin about two in the morning. Bubs and Ange left the fireworks and went home to Utah. Bubs said it took them over an hour to get out of the parking lot. Then about ten miles down I-15 they got a flat. They had to drive home slow on a spare the rest of the way. They got home about 5:30 in the morning. That sounds awful.

Cabin Flowers

Mike and Stockton left for Utah early this morning. Stockton needed to go to his film class. He had to take a midterm. They got there in time, so I was happy about that. Mike also texted me a lot of pictures he took from Saturday. I didn't take many pictures today, so I thought this would be a great spot to put them. Mike had asked the kids to pick wildflowers before they got mowed down. I think they loved it.

I went on a walk with Rachel and played frisbee golf with Brett, Matt and my dad. I'm not very good at frisbee golf. I did take this next picture today. Marie found this hole. My brothers were talking about how they have never seen it before. I'm worried it is the septic tank. It looks like the lid is missing. What the heck? I'm worried about it because when we bought the cabin we were told it would probably be years before the septic tank would need to be dealt with. Mike's house growing up was on a septic tank. It is super expensive to fix/replace. I just hope the lid is missing and we just need to cover it. I'm anxious for Mike to see it. I sure hope we don't have to come up with $10,000 right now. Not a good time.
After that gross picture, here is a picture Bubs texted me that he took today. This is on the way home from the Springs. Beautiful.
It was also Trevor's birthday and Rachel sent them a video message of us (her kids, Jorja and I) saying happy birthday. We had a super fun foosball tournament today. We played a doubles tournament. We had an adult matched up with a kid. Preston was on my team. We lost the first game to Brett and Abby. We went through the bottom bracket and ended up playing Brett and Abby again and were victorious. That sent us to the championship. We played Bubs and Max. We won the first game 10-9. So fun! We played the next game and lost 10-1. Whoops. It was really fun though.

Jorja hopefully is coming out of her post efy funk. Rachel took her to the store, and I think the change of scenery helped. I took her to the store later to get milk. We talked in the car for awhile, so that was good. Jorja ended up face timing Isaac and Evan. That made her super happy.

Mike called and I talked to him for a bit. Stockton's midterm ended up being pretty easy. Someone in the class asked if it could be open book and the teacher was good with that. The joys of college. Mike took Stockton bowling after. They had to buy socks and it looks like Stockton is the proud new owner of pretzel socks.

 Stockton won both games
Then they came home and played punch out on the arcade Mike made
Mike and Stockton are going to meet us tomorrow at Terry and Debie's house. I'm glad Stockton is able to spend so much time up here and still meet his summer school responsibilities. It's nice that his bowling class is cancelled tomorrow because of the 4th.

Breakfast Bread

Matt and Sam were in charge of breakfast today. Sam made bread last night. This morning she had all the breads set out with little labels. The choices were: Dutch Apple, Cinnamon Twist, Peach Cobbler, Banana Bread, Pumpkin Bread, Lemon Yogurt, Poppy Seed, Peanut Butter Oreo. Talk about an overachiever! The breads were delicious as well, and all of them were Anne safe.
Brett's family, Matt's family and my family all headed down to Swan Valley to go to 10:00 church. Sharon's ward now meets in a schoolhouse. Their building burned down awhile ago. There were chairs sitting in the gymnasium. We didn't see Steve or Sharon there though. It was fast and testimony meeting. One guy gave a testimony about bugs on his windshield. He talked about how bugs were hitting the windshield and he thought nothing of it. He talked about driving in relative comfort when all of a sudden he went around a turn and the sun hit his windshield in such a way that all of the bugs lit up and he couldn't see anything except a small strip of white line he could barely make out of the corner of the windshield. He had gone straight into a place of non excitement into peril in a matter of seconds. He then talked about how all this could have been alleviated if he had done proper maintenance. Like made sure he had washer fluid in his windshield wipers or washed his windshield at the gas stations. He related the bugs to sin and the washing of the windshield to things like praying, reading scriptures. Little things that you don't think anything of, but add up day to day. Anyways, I liked this analogy. My brothers were joking about how it is the modern day analogy of the flaxen cord. I also saw a guy come into church wearing a t-shirt that said, "Ah...the power of cheese!"

I forgot that yesterday while we were driving up to the cabin, Stockton texted me this picture. Of course I didn't read it, but Maysen described it to me. Gotta love Calvin & Hobbes!

We had a foosball tournament today. Brett won the entire thing. I had to play Brett first off and didn't do well. Stockton came in 2nd place. Matt 3rd.

Jorja had brought a bag of mini kitkats to EFY with her. She didn't eat most of them, so we brought them up to the cabin. The car was so hot on the way up all the kitkats melted together. Jorja put them in the freezer when we got here. Now it is just one giant kitkat blob.
Maysen
Maysen played pirates with Brett and Matt. Mike slept most of the day, still filled with Benadryl. His eye was super puffy this morning, but it is pretty much back to normal now. Anyways, Maysen won the game. First, Brett's ship was sunk by a merchant, Maysen rolling as the merchant. Brett's hand was practically filled with schooners, he just couldn't get enough money to buy one. He was hoping by attacking a merchant with his giant sloop he would dominate. Not the case as Maysen did an awesome merchant roll. Shortly after Brett was kicked out of the game, Maysen attacked Matt and sunk him as well. Nicely done Maysen, your father will be proud.

Stockton spent most of the evening "working" on his essay paper for film that is due tomorrow. He had no desire to write it because it was such a boring topic. He paced a lot and then sat in the infamous cabin chair that always tips. It was so funny watching him go down.

EFY to Idaho

Jorja came home from EFY today. I ran out to meet her. Ebony's parents brought them home. Both Jorja and Ebony looked exhausted. I guess they only got one hour of sleep last night. Jorja stayed up making friendship bracelets.

Once Jorja got in the front door I looked at her and she burst into tears. She said she was sad because she probably wouldn't be able to see people from her group ever again. Most of the boys were from California. She was also upset because this boy texted her all week. We will call him Mr. X. I guess they kind of liked each other. (Whatever-everyone in our family has told her NOT to like this kid. He has not been the nicest to her in the past.) Mr. X texted her at the beginning of the week to tell her he liked another girl. Then he got mad at her because he said Jorja and Isaac made out and there are pictures to prove it. Jorja asked to see the pictures and he said Isaac deleted them so his mom wouldn't see. He then started calling Jorja a liar. He actually called her up and told her she was a liar. Jorja said she snapped at him and in kind of a mean voice said, "You have no right to call me a liar!" Jorja said she could hear Evan (she thinks it was Evan) saying, "Mr. X, stop!" in the background. Jorja was really upset and called Isaac later that night to find out if he had told Mr. X anything, like if he was trying to tease him or something, because that was the only thing that made sense to Jorja. Isaac was shocked. I asked Jorja how they would even get a picture. She laughed and said, "I guess we would take a picture while we were kissing with my mom staring at us through the window." Just in case there is any confusion, this never happened.

Well, the next day Mr. X kept texting and calling Jorja asking her to take him back. All day long, every day. I'm frustrated because this dominated her EFY experience. Jorja said she was kind of glad she was at EFY because her new friends helped her through it instead of this happening while she was alone in her room. That made me sad. I wish if something like this was happening she would let me know instead of shut me out. Teenagers.

Good things did happen at EFY too. Jorja loved a lot of the classes. Especially the ones taught by Brother Kirkman. She had great fun at the dances. She met this kid Hunter that she became good friends with and came home with a little crush on this kid named Luke. Is this why Jorja never tells me anything? Anyways, they were so nice to her. It was quite a contrast to Mr. X and showed Jorja how she should expect to be treated.

After talking with Jorja about this and having her get in her softball clothes, I hurried her out the door. I dropped her off at softball practice then grabbed a cake from 'Nothing Bundt Cakes'. I dropped the cake off at the church and hurried home to get in church clothes. Maysen and I walked to church because I wanted to leave the non-airconditioned car in the garage so it wouldn't be super hot later. Maysen and I sat on the stand and sang in the choir for Roger Christensen's funeral. All four of his kids spoke. I remember Mark Christensen from school. He was a grade ahead of us and was an SBO. He told a funny story. "My dad and I didn't always see eye-to-eye my senior year of high school. Not about big stuff, curfew mostly. When I would come home I was supposed to stop by my parents room and check-in. One night I was late. I was really late. When I went up the stairs instead of turning right I made a hard left and got into my own bed. It wasn't very long until I heard my dad's footsteps coming down the hall. I jumped up so fast and hit my knees. I was in praying position when he walked into the room. He waited and waited. There was no way I was going to say 'Amen'. After awhile he left. That's when I started praying. 'Thank you for sparing my life.' The next day my dad spoke in a ward conference that my friend was in attendance. He told everyone how humbling it was to see his child in prayer. Then he quoted this scripture, (can't remember the scripture right now). It was this experience that made me realize I never wanted to disappoint my dad." It was a really good funeral. I'm so sad that President Christensen is gone. He was so loved. The choir sang Believe in Christ for the closing song. It sounded really pretty.

Maysen and I sat on the stand for the entire funeral. The entire chapel was packed. On the stand was also our bishop, one of his counselors, our stake president and one of his counselors. One of these people happens to be Mr. X's dad. I said a little prayer, "I'm not going to seek out Mr. X's dad, but if it would be good for me to talk to him please let the opportunity arise." Well, as Maysen and I were walking off the stand he came up to me to thank me for singing in the choir. I said thank you and then asked if I could ambush him. I told him that my daughter was friends with his son, that she was at EFY this week but came home really upset because she was bombarded all week with texts from his son. It got to the point where she gave her phone to someone else. Mr. X also got other people to text Jorja asking her to reply to Mr. X's texts. I told him I didn't want to get Mr. X in trouble, I just wanted to give him a heads up and maybe look at Mr. X's phone and see if the messages were still there. Mr. X's dad was so nice and said things like, "Thank you for bringing this to my attention."

Jorja still wasn't home from softball practice when we got home. I also realized I forgot to move the laundry over, which frustrated me because that just put us behind an hour. Anyways, once Jorja came home I said, "Hey, talked to Mr. X's dad today." Jorja's eyes about bulged out of her face. I told her I wasn't mean, but his dad needed to know what was going on. I would want to know if one of my kids was doing this. Then I would know I needed to monitor their phones more closely. Maysen also convinced her this was the right thing to do and that he would do this to other girls if he wasn't taught that this was wrong. Jorja had only gotten one text from him this morning. It said, "Well i didnt think you would break up with me" Jorja didn't reply. A couple of hours after the funeral she got another text that said, "Im really sorry" That made me smile. I looked at Jorja and said, "His parents have talked to him." About half an hour later she got another text that said, "Sorry if i was being really mean i won't do it again. hope we can stay friends." Then Jorja and Mr. X were actually to have a normal conversation. Jorja might not have been happy with my meddling, but so far she likes the result.

Okay, now to the rest of our day. When we were finally packed and out the door we stopped at my dad's house to pick up a few things for Sam, then got some food at Zupas. It was a hot drive, but not so bad when we got into the shade of the mountains. I got a text from Mike that said, "We changed the tracks for wheels. I fixed the leaky gas tube on the mower but now mower died and I am miserably allergic so I am going to lay down after a shower." A few hours later, "My eyes are almost swollen shut." I stopped at the store and picked up some Benadryl. Mike could see when I got to the cabin, but his eyes were super swollen and puffy. I wish I had taken a picture.

We are finally here! I just talked to people and played Wits and Wagers before bed. Brett and Matt risked everything (they had a lot) on the weirdest question. How tall is Tom Cruise? Brett risked it all on 5'8". Matt risked it all on 5'7". Matt was right and ended up winning the entire game.
