Jorja's Gum Surgery

Jorja had gum surgery today. It was a gum graft actually. They took part of the roof of her mouth and grafted that piece under her front tooth. The gum had receded from her front tooth and it was starting to hurt. Maysen and Stockton both had this surgery when they were in 4th grade. Jorja was hoping to get away without having it, but no such luck. Obviously this is hereditary. Jorja did great. Once I got her home I spent the rest of the day giving her medicine and ice packs at the appropriate time. Very similar to wisdom teeth. Somehow I didn't get any pictures of Jorja, but look at these amazing pictures I did get!

At the periodontist. #1 they have to say it #2 the have to 'insure' it??? Notice someone tried to change it to 'ensure'

Wasn't brave enough to try these.
Jorja managed to drag herself to Jake's house so she could watch him open his mission call. He got called to Johannesburg, South Africa.

Moving In

Jorja had a long fun day. She was at school for a few hours doing whatever Packer needed her to do. On her way home she called me in a panic. She wanted fake pumpkins and couldn't find them at Michael's. She didn't have time to look at any other store. I was in the middle of exercising and super sweaty, but went to Hobby Lobby anyway. I was embarrassed about how I looked, and that is really saying something! I did find Jorja some pumpkins she could use for her date. The girls threw a Halloween dance tonight. The day date was at Ella's. They did a carnival. They bobbed for apples, had a face painting station, painted pumpkins and lots of other things. Jorja had a great time.

Today was moving day for the ducks! Mike got his duck pond to a spot where the ducks can finally enjoy it! Mike was so happy. He grabbed Cream, the duck who has a severe limp, and brought her to the pond. I tried to get Angel, but she would not come to me. I cornered her toward the pond and she eventually flew in. The ducks loved it. Mike is happy.

Searching for Businesses

Jorja had school at home today. The first half of the alphabet is able to go Monday and Tuesday. Jorja will only go Wednesday this week because Thursday and Friday will be fall break. What a weird year. Anyway, Jorja and Ella spent a lot of time driving around writing down all the businesses near by. She went out again later to do the same thing with Jake in a different section. She is getting a list as possible businesses that could be asked to donate to the fundraiser.

Riley came over tonight. Jorja and Riley made apple cider. Picked their own apples and everything. They also made chicken parmesan for dinner. It was good. After dinner we played Mario Party.

Balloon Car

I was pretty frustrated with Jorja today. She had asked if she could go to breakfast with Riley. I am not a Riley fan, and she missed curfew last night. She did keep me posted and when I wouldn't let her stay out extra late she hurried home as fast as she could. The kids don't have school today and the plan was for her to study the ACT all day. I thought that her having breakfast with Riley would get her up early so she could start studying in the morning. Riley picked her up at 8:00. She didn't get home until ALMOST 11:00! Three freaking hours. She told me she would just go to breakfast and back and then start studying. I was furious. Jorja studying most of the day and then went to get hot chocolate with Ella and Giselle. That was the plan from a few days ago. While she was out she asked if she could ask Jake. She said it would be fast, so I told her okay. She texted me that message at 7:30. She FINALLY asked him at 9:00. She had worked on the poster yesterday, so I believed her when she said it would be fast. I admit, it looks cute, but she has the ACT tomorrow! Then she came home and had to do government homework that she had put off doing. Something like a giant assignment and four quizzes. WHAT? So, when I ask her if she has done all her work, she says yes because it isn't due until a long time from now. That is not what I meant and she knows it! So, instead of getting a good nights sleep before the ACT she stayed up until 11:30 working on her government. I think I'm going to lose my mind.

Lows and Highs

First the lows. When Jorja woke up this morning, she saw a story that Dallen's sister posted. It was Dallen cheering at the Corner Canyon game. This is Bode's job, but he couldn't be there because he is waiting for the results of his covid test. Anyway, the video shows Dallen saying, "We are going to say the first thing three times and the second thing five." He then waves an American flag and led a chant saying, "USA! USA! USA!" He quickly changes it to a Trump flag and chants, "Trump! Trump! Trump! Trump! Trump!" Oh boy. I couldn't believe it. Jorja couldn't believe it. Jorja was there the entire game except for about fifteen minutes. Bode was watching the game from the other side of the fence and she went to say hi, six feet away of course. Apparently the audience didn't know what was going to be chanted. This is wrong on so many levels. People can have their own views, of course, but Dallen... as the student body president... leading a chant at an Alta football game. That should not have happened. It didn't take long for someone else to post a video of it and lots of people commented about what a disgrace the student body officers are. Jorja has been very vocal about this not being okay. She commented on the post and she started a chat in the student government group saying that they (as a group) need to apologize to the students and to start brainstorming. Some people agreed with her and some strongly disagreed saying Dallen did nothing wrong and was exercising his first amendment right. Of course he didn't do anything illegal, but as a representative of the school, he needs to represent all groups and not put people in an uncomfortable situation. How could he possibly think that everyone there wanted to chant Trump? He didn't. That is why he kept it a secret. Very bad move.

Second the highs. Jorja went to Lagoon with Jake today. While she was there the Make-a-Wish people contacted her to tell her they have picked a girl for her! Let me back up. When Jorja was elected financial chair she had a dream that the fundraiser would be for a little girl named Kate. She has really been hoping she would be assigned a girl. Well, turns out the child that has been assigned to her is a girl! And her name is Kate! WHAT??? Jorja is beyond thrilled. The little girl is three years old. She has a twin sister named Ellie who was just diagnosed with the exact same cancer Kate has. I can't even imagine. Kate's wish is for a backyard makeover, somewhere she can play with her siblings. They can't really go anywhere, they have to be especially careful because of corona. Jorja was told that the student government can come and help do yard work etc for this. She is so excited. I hope that she will be able to pull off a fundraiser in this crazy year!

Jorja was soaked when she got home. The last ride they went on was Rattlesnake Rapids. She told Jake she would go on that if he would go on Wicked. I guess he is terrified of roller coasters. Later tonight Jorja stopped by Sadler's to wish him Happy Birthday. Crazy that these guys are all turning 18!

Back to Church

We were able to go to church today for the first time since March. It was weird with social distancing and masks. Sacrament bread in little cups with the boys holding two trays so we could throw away the cups in a completely different tray. It was so nice to be back though. Church was only sacrament meeting and it was only 45 minutes, still it was wonderful. Mike, Preston and I went early so we could help sanitize the building. We also helped sanitize it after. There were two different meetings with our ward. We went to the first one. Mike and I were planning on coming back to sanitize the building after the last one as well, but were told we didn't need to come. We get to go to church once in the month of September and October as well. At least it is something!

Bishop Waddoups asked how Stockton was doing. Mike told him about the plates of Elder Smith. He sent him two screen shots as an example. Bishop Waddoups loved it. He says he can tell Stockton has immersed himself in the scriptures, he has the cadence down perfectly. Haha

Jorja is planning on doing a collage for every week of her senior year. Her friend, Seurette did this last year and Jorja loved the idea. Here is her first collage of her senior year.

Brenton and Jake are in our ward and they are both in student government with Jorja. In the student government group chat Jake asked Jorja to come to the church. Brenton was there too. She brought Bear and they hung out for a long time. Too long for my liking. We don't get to see Jorja much, so I was a bit annoyed she left for so long on our family day. I didn't mind for a bit, but look how bright the sky is in the first pictures and how dark it is on the last. I am glad she has such good friends in our ward. Jorja has been the only girl her grade that comes to church for the last few years. I'm glad she is such good friends with the boys.
