Two Dates and a Breakup

Brett and Rachel left for Idaho today. Before they left we had fun playing with them. Jorja and the girls had fun making a music video together.

 Editing meeting
Maysen, Jorja and Preston baked a cake. Except we had no eggs, so they tried it will egg whites (from a carton) ~ it didn't work out too well. It still tasted delicious though.
Jorja had two dates today. A lunch date with a boy named Isaac. They went to Costa Vida and the pet store for some reason. She had a great time.
Jorja & Isaac
Tonight Jorja had a date with Teegan. She doubled with Ebony who took Cinco and Madison who took some tall dude. It was a simple date, but everyone seemed to have a great time. They went to the store and bought ingredients for food. Came home and made pizza and played Jackbox games. Again, Jorja had a great time. Teegan is in our ward and is super nice.

That was the two dates. Now for the break up. Jorja was dating a boy named Spencer. He was nice and everything, until Jorja went to Taiwan. She didn't have a lot of contact with him while she was there. WiFi was hard, we barely heard from her, time zones were different and she was busy, busy, busy. They had a date when she got back. At least Jorja thought it was a date. Spencer ended up taking her out to dinner with his family. That didn't bother her. Their first date was with his family. Then they went back to his house and she hung out with his little siblings while he talked to his parents. Then he invited one of his friends over to watch a movie with them. Jorja was so confused. She wanted to tell him about Taiwan, and he never asked. She also wanted to hear about his trips, but he wasn't interested in talking to her. They watched a movie and then Spencer said he had to get Jorja home. It was way early, she told him she had permission to stay out until 11:30. So, he decided they should watch another movie. Then he took her home. Jorja was a half an hour early, but at this point she didn't care. She was so sad she just wanted to get home. She called me. I was in Idaho. It made no sense.

Anyways, Spencer left the next day for St. George. Jorja texted him and asked when he would be home. He said next Thursday. She asked if he would like to go on a date the following Friday, which would have been today. He said he would let her know. Then didn't send any kind of message to her at all for a week. He used to message her all the time. Not a crazy amount, but this was weird and Jorja could tell something was off. One week later Jorja sent him another text asking if Friday at 5:30 would work. He said, "Oh....I meant to tell you. I will still be in St. George and then I have a family reunion on Saturday, so I can't go." Jorja is leaving tomorrow and will be gone until school starts. She was so sad. She couldn't believe he didn't have any contact with her for a week and then dropped out of their date. She texted back something like, "Oh...okay...I guess I will see you when school starts then." His reply was something like, "Sounds great! See you then." Jorja didn't know what to make of that, but she knew it made her sad.

Spencer didn't contact her at all after that. He was pretty much ghosting her and she didn't know why. Jorja sent him a message today that said something like 'I feel like ever sense I said yes to you something has been off. I'm not sure if you have lost feelings for me or what, but I want to know what is happening so I don't waste my time or yours.' She was a lot more articulate, I'm sure. She is in Nauvoo right now, so I can't check. Anyway, he said he was on his way home and could he take her out for ice-cream so they could talk, because this was important to him. They agreed for Jorja to text him after her date. Anyways, Jorja met him at the neighborhood park at 11:00. Spencer told her that he was at the temple and had a prompting that he needed to break up with her. He pushed it away, but when he went to the St. George temple the prompting was even stronger. That made Jorja mad. Isaac (not the one she had her lunch date with) used to use that line on her all the time too. Jorja sees it as a cop out. She felt he was being completely fake with her. She asked him if he was ever planning on telling her. Spencer would have just let her go on this trip and be gone for another three weeks with her wondering what the heck was going on. Not cool.

The other reason Spencer gave for breaking up with her was they grew apart while she was in Taiwan. That made Jorja mad. She told me that he never even asked her about her trip. He was blaming this once in a lifetime opportunity on their breakup. She was shocked. She was also annoyed that he broke up with her when she had planned on breaking up with him. Now she feels like a loser that no one can stand to be with. Her words, not mine. Spencer kept saying things like, "I'm sorry you feel that way." That bothered her so much. Like he wasn't taking any responsibility for being a jerk. He doesn't need to keep dating her if he doesn't want to, but ghosting is a jerk move, and extremely cowardly. Jorja finally said, "It's okay. You're just like any other boy. You just want the chase. As soon as the girl says yes you get bored and move on." I don't think he really liked being told he was just like every other boy. When Spencer walked her to her car he told her they should go on a date when she gets back and 'he decided it will be fun.' Wow. Jorja said to me, "So, I'm someone who people have to decide to have fun with before they hang out with me. I'm not a fun person, they have to consciously decide to have fun with me." He also told her that on their date she could tell him about her trip. She said, "So, you didn't want to know a thing about my month long stay in a foreign country staying with host families, but you will want to know about my week long trip to Nauvoo? I don't think so." Then she got in her car to drive away. Too bad her car door is broken and sometimes she has to readjust the handle. This was one of those times. She got out to fix her door and said, "Well, this is awkward." Hahahaha. I love her!

Anyway, Jorja and I talked for a long time. She is a bit sad, but mostly mad. She didn't see this coming from Spencer before she left for Taiwan. The thing that bothers me is right now she is vulnerable. Her face has broken out and she is completely embarrassed by it. It is really taking a chunk out of her self esteem. This was not good timing. Still, I'm glad for her not to have a boyfriend. I don't like them. I haven't liked any of the boys she has liked except one. Life would be so much simpler if she could keep the boys at arms length. Maybe this experience with Spencer will help her do that. One can always hope.

Water Bottle

We got another secret message from Stockton today! It just was a picture that let us know the email we sent out to everyone with his letter from the week didn't work. Not an exciting message, but still so cool! I texted Jorja a lot today. She wanted me to find a number for Classic. She wants to rent it out after hours for the sophomore class. She called them and found a time that would work. Her plan was to sell tickets to the sophomores for a few dollars to pay for it, if there is anything extra it would be put into the sophomore fund. She felt very anxious to get this done and thought it was a really good idea. She stayed after school in the hopes to talk to Mr. Packer about it. He shut her down though and wouldn't even listen to her. It was too bad because she had the leg work done and had a plan, but he wouldn't give her a chance. Because she tried to talk to Packer she missed her ride home with Conner. Instead she went with Madison, Spencer and Isaac to Arbys to eat. I was a little sad because we had planned on getting something after school when we went to get her car filled with gas. I didn't eat lunch so I would be hungry when we went. Instead I just didn't eat anything. Jorja ended up going to the softball game with those guys then afterwords they went to Scheels. She was quite proud of talking her way onto a free Ferris wheel ride. Jorja had a $50 gift card that she won at her work party in January. I had tried to talk her into using that to buy nice mittens. She didn't want to, she wanted to get something fun instead. That is fine, but she always borrows my mittens when we go sledding, because they are awesome. She has wanted some of her own. Hers got destroyed a few times ago. Anyway, she came home with a fancy bright yellow hydro flask water bottle. It cost at least $30! Then she spent $5 to get it engraved! Spencer is in her seminary class and I guess she wrote really small Jorja loves Spencer on his water bottle. So, since he was with her she got 'Spencer loves Jorja' engraved on her water bottle! I don't know why this annoyed me so much, but it just did. I know the engraving was bigger than she realized it would be, but I hate it. Jorja was so surprised. She kept looking at me and saying, "But it's funny." She also said, "But it was a gift card, so it wasn't real money anyway." I know that, but she could have bought mittens! If she had gotten a cute shirt I wouldn't be annoyed, but this just seemed wasteful. The water bottle is super cute but I absolutely HATE the engraving. Anyway, after Jorja came home she left again with Madison to go to a stake young womens activity. It was YCL training. (Youth Camp Leader) They learned a weird rap they are going to have to sing. Jorja hated it. Preston got to go to Airborne for his activity. He had a lot more fun than Jorja did.

Fishes, Diving, and EFY

Today was a crazy busy day. Lots of things happening at the same time. I will break things up into three different sections. First, Maysen and Preston. Maysen is taking an Oceanography class at Utah State. They had a field trip at the aquarium by our house. Maysen asked if Preston would want to meet her here and go with her. He was SO EXCITED! Preston is the most vocal about missing Maysen and jumps at every chance to see her. Maysen told them they would have to be at the aquarium at 9:45 at the latest or Preston might not be able to in with her. Mike was there right on time. Maysen was driving through Bountiful. Oh boy. Once the bus arrived they wouldn't let anyone off of it because one more bus was still coming. Preston could see Maysen, but couldn't get to her.
Preston waiting for Maysen
Maysen and Preston! Preston's much happier now!
 Preston eating lunch.
Mike picked up Preston around 2:00. He said Preston loved the field trip. Maysen headed back on the bus to Logan. How fun that he got to see her for a few hours. I wish I did! I couldn't see Maysen because Stockton had his regional diving competition. It was held at the U, so I needed to volunteer. Gavin's dad picked up Stockton at 6:30 this morning. Warm ups started at 7:00. Stockton and Gavin weren't scheduled to dive for a few hours, so Gavin's dad took them to breakfast. I was assigned to put the scores in the computer. It is an easy job, but I got soaked. The computer got soaked. Too bad for me, my cross stitch bag got soaked. I forgot it was under my chair. Once I realized I hurried and pulled everything out. I had all the papers and the fabric drying on the giant foam square thing behind me. So glad the red didn't bleed! Stockton did great on one meter. He placed high enough to go to Nationals in Florida. Yay! He actually wanted to go this year. Stockton has earned a spot to go to Nationals on other years, it just never worked out. Regionals are usually on Saturday and Sunday. They will have 3 meter on Saturday and 1 meter on Sunday. Then Nationals will have 1 meter on Saturday and 3 meter on Sunday. It is quite annoying. Anyway, this time they had one and three meter both on Saturday. It made for a really long day, but yay! 1 meter will be on Saturday at Nationals. 3 meter will be on Sunday, so Stockton will only compete in 1 meter. Here are a few of his dives.

Mike dropped off Preston at the aquarium and then hurried up to the U to watch Stockton. He was able to watch him dive most of 1 meter. He had to leave to go back and pick up Preston and take Jorja up to Orem. He dropped Jorja off in Orem and raced back to Salt Lake to watch Stockton. He got to see the end of his 3 meter competition. Yikes! That's a lot of driving! Stockton also earned a spot to go to Nationals in 3 meter, but he is going to decline it because of the Sunday thing. I also worked the computer during this event. Stockton texted me after one of his dives and said that Gavin wasn't going to do his 205 (back 2 1/2). I showed the text to Gavin's dad who was announcing next to me.  Then Gavin failed his 107 (front 3 1/2). You can't fail two dives and make it to Nationals. He had to do it and land it, but he did not want to. His mom wasn't very happy with him. They had already bought tickets and everything. Stockton got Mickey to talk to him. I watched Mickey try to calm Gavin down, which raised my opinion of Mickey. Gavin went up on the board. He turned around like he was going to go for it, then he turned back around like he was just going to jump off, then he turned around again. He threw it and landed it. That was a lot of pressure. He was so scared. I don't know why he signed up for that dive. He hadn't even tried it for six months I guess. He was always too scared to do it in practice. Anyway, he made it to Nationals too, so that is great. Now we just have to find some cheap plane tickets!
Stockton ~ reverse tuck ~ there is a maximum degree of difficulty,
so Stockton had to lower some of his dives to meet that qualification.

Jorja got to go to a mini EFY today. It was held in Orem. Mike dropped her off, but she ended up hanging out with several boys. She loved that!

Jaren moved here from California at the start of the year. Jorja was so excited he was able to come. His family just bought a house in our neighborhood, although they won't be in our ward. They are staying in a rental house at the moment. I drove up to Orem to pick up Jorja. She tried to get some of the boys to ride home with us. They weren't allowed to. She found out later they went to In and Out. She was a bit sad. She says that sometimes she wishes she was a boy so she could hang out with them. She has more close friends that are boys than girls. Jorja would not enjoy being a boy. She is way too girly for that!

Macbeth, Jumanji, Skating

Jorja had a busy day today. I ended up being her Uber driver. First, Jorja was at Macbeth from 9-2. Hailey came over for a bit, which Jorja loved! Hailey has been in California this week and Jorja has been going through withdrawals. I then took the girls and Isaac to the movie theater so they could see Jumanji. I picked them up from In-and-Out and took them to Cottonwood to go iceskating. Then picked them up after. It was a lot of driving. I hope Jorja appreciates it.

Mike spent today working with Preston on making a Valentine's box. Preston loves it! It isn't finished yet, but this is what it looks like so far. I think they have plans to add teeth to the piranha plant.

Mike, Preston and I played Preston's pandemic game. We lost. We have gotten so close, but it is super hard to win! We are going to try again tomorrow.

Eve's Down

This is how Eve looked most of the day. She was hot. She let me take her temperature. 102. She wouldn't let me give her any medicine though. Luckily she didn't start acting sick until after Brett and Rachel FaceTimed us. Grace was better, Eve wasn't sick, I'm glad they didn't have to worry about their girls today.
Eve
I picked up Jorja from school at 6:00. We went to the store and bought things for Evan. He is having his wisdom teeth out tomorrow and Jorja wanted to bring him something. We went to his house after, but he wasn't there. Jorja remembered he had a basketball game. I brought Jorja home and she hurried and ate dinner before she was off again. She went to this monologue thing the theater was putting on. Her friend, Jaron the Fruit King, asked her if she would go. Too bad he went first and she arrived right after he finished. Isaac went with Jorja. Jorja drove. Isaac was terrified. It was funny.
Jorja & Isaac
We tried to drop off the package to Evan after the monologue thing. Evan's house was dark. Isaac then remembered that he was at his dad's house tonight. I thought it was too late, but he convinced me to try anyway. We drove to his dad's house, but the house was dark. Oh well, we will try again later. The girls were still up when I got home. Yikes! They were easy to get down though.

EFY Express

I took Jorja down to Thanksgiving Point to meet with Kelsee this morning. There was a ton of snow. It's like Utah decided to have all of its snow for the year come on one day. Mike cleared off the car for me, which was super nice. I was driving slowly down the big hill by my house. There is a stop sign at the bottom. When I stopped all the snow from the top of the van slid down on my window. There was at least 14 inches of snow. The snow was so heavy the wipers wouldn't knock it away. I couldn't see anything. I hopped out to see if I could knock it off, but a car was coming. I didn't want to be at the bottom, especially if the car slid into me. I jumped back in the car and drove farther. The snow kept coming down. The only way I could see even a little bit was if I kind of stood while pushing the gas. Jorja told me I needed to pull over, but I couldn't. If I did I would get hit. I managed to get to Gavin's old house, which is by the fire station. There is a place I could pull off there. I tried to get all the snow off. It was really cold without gloves. A guy stopped and asked if I was stuck. That was nice. Anyway, we had left an hour early so that was good. The roads were pretty bad until the freeway and then they got better. We were twenty minutes early once we got off. I decided to get gas. That was crazy! The gas pump was all frozen over. I used the car scraper to knock the ice off it. Once that was done, I still couldn't get it to work. I had to hit the attendant button. I guess the snow was so packed down from where I picked up the handle that it didn't register the handle was not in there anymore. After all that we made it to Kelsee's place without a second to spare. At least we weren't late. Kelsee taught Jorja some cute buns. Jorja was happy.

Jorja is taller than me now, so getting the top of her head was difficult.

Isaac called on the way back from Kelsee's. He was going to an EFY Express. Jorja instantly wanted to go. I guess she has always wanted to go to one. I didn't know that. I had been seeing the emails for weeks. Jorja tried to get several people to go with her, but because it was so last minute, none of them could make it. She still really wanted to go. When I realized it was at the Jordan Institute, which is right by the Jordan campus of SLCC I decided to let her go. I knew right where that was. I didn't want to find a random place with the crazy snowy roads. We picked up Isaac. The roads by his house were awful. I'm glad we got out of there! Jorja was anxious for me to see Isaac because I have a contract he needed to sign before she could have her phone at home. I talked to Isaac about everything on the list and he signed it. I'm not saying that Isaac has done all these things, they were just all things that I wanted to make sure Jorja and Isaac would never do.
Once the doors opened I got Jorja registered and they were off. I might get this next story wrong because I wasn't there, but at the beginning everyone was doing a welcoming activity. Answering questions and such. When they were back together the speaker called Jorja to come up and tell everyone what she wrote. I think. He then called another girl up. Jorja said it was really funny because they were dressed the same. Same height, brown hair, same color of dress, same color of shoes, etc. Jorja became friends with this girl and her two friends. She talked Isaac up to them, so Isaac had a great time. Jorja did say later that it wasn't fair that Isaac got to meet girls and she wasn't able to meet any boys. Ha! Maybe next time the tables will be turned.

Jorja asked if Isaac could come over after the express. I reminded her they can not get back together, that would be a very bad idea. They both said that wasn't going to happen. I hope so. I'm glad they are able to be friends again. I just want it to stop there. At least at FIFTEEN! On the way back home the plan was to pick up Stockton from Gavin's house. Stockton wasn't ready to come home. He had made brownies with Gavin and they were going to drop them off. Gavin's dad was going to bring him home, so that worked out well for me. Stockton and Gavin dropped brownies off at Gage's house. Stockton hasn't seen him for two years. Gage is their old diving buddy. Well, he's Gavin's age, so he's not old. Stockton couldn't believe how much he had changed.

Jorja and Isaac spent the time here playing the piano. Isaac plays really well. Jorja would sing as she played. She asked me if she could take voice lessons. We'll have to see. My favorite was when she would sing the Hallelujah song. I thought she sounded great. Rachel and her girls got here while they were playing the piano. Yay! It was so great to see them! I was getting Marie and Mina tucked into bed when Stockton came downstairs. He was laughing. He said he realized Isaac was still here when he heard the piano playing low notes. Instead of coming in the front door like a normal person, he went around back. With knee deep snow. He got in through the sliding door. Then he hopped the banister to go downstairs. He was proud that they didn't know he was home. He makes me laugh!

Jorja's Therapy

I took Jorja and Hailey to the temple this morning. President Back asks where Stockton is every time we come. I tell him that he still isn't ready to come back. President Back said they watched a temple video this morning of how they should treat the people that are coming so they don't have a bad experience. I don't know if Stockton is still upset about what happened, but it is the last day of the quarter and he has been pretty stressed. (Stockton was doing baptisms and was waiting for us in the lobby. We wanted him to come back into the temple. The guy at the desk wouldn't let him come back in because he didn't have a bar code on his recommend. His recommend expired in December and they didn't start issuing the bar codes until January. Stockton did nothing wrong, but the guy at the desk made him feel horrible and embarrassed. President Back was there when it happened.) Stockton took Jorja and Hailey to school. I found these pictures on Jorja's phone. She was proving it was really her and that she had her phone back.

 Jorja
I finished Eve's stocking today. Luckily Rachel is going to put it together.
Yikes! I just noticed I didn't outline one leaf! I'll have to fix that.
Jorja had therapy today. She loves it. I love that she is not embarrassed about it. She will tell anyone where she is going and why she is going there ~ to get help with her anxiety and panic attacks. I saw a message from one of her friends tonight saying something like she didn't know why she was in therapy, but she was here for her if she ever needed her. Jorja told me that when she told this friend where she was going this friend had mentioned she was in therapy too. I love that Jorja is not letting there be anything negative attached to her therapy. This girl is quite amazing.

I hurried Jorja back to school as soon as she was finished. She wanted to go to the wrestling match. She stayed after to watch The Battle of the Bands. Hailey's brother, Jonas, won last year. He didn't win this year though. I was hoping to see him. I stopped by Javita's house to give Whitley a get well soon bag. She had surgery on her foot today. I got to the performance as soon as I could. Jonas had gone first, so I missed him. I did see a group playing the Wii channel theme. That was funny.

Dessa's mom dropped Jorja off after Battle of the Bands. Dessa stayed over until about 11:00. I'm not sure what they did, but Jorja was happy.

Snow Buddies

Today was the last day at the cabin and we made the most of it. Sledding and lots of it. There was also cleaning, but that isn't as fun to document.

I can't believe how much sagebrush is poking out from the snow. I'm not used to that at all. We need more snow!

We are on our way to the Springs. I convinced the girls to try a sled with a rope. Notice they are on two sleds.
 Stockton, Gavin is next.
Whoops! Gavin took the wrong path!
Mike and Preston are sharing a sled. One of the sleds the girls rode up on completely broke on the way.
You can barely see Stockton's head and Mike's back. I love it up here!
Jorja and Hailey. I made a bad decision of where to stand for this picture. I wish I had been by the rock!
This is my last picture on the big camera. My camera card filled up. That's a lot of pictures!

I decided to leave with the four high schoolers. Mike stayed later with Preston to finish packing up and shutting down the cabin. They left when we were about in Evanston. I dropped Gavin and Hailey off just before 10:00. Talk about making the most out of our vacation! Speaking of vacations, while I was taking the pictures of Gavin and Stockton the guy from the Alaska cruise tour finally called me back. I got some information and then asked if Mike could call him back. I was anxious to leave. Mike put a deposit down on the trip. We weren't able to get cabins next to each other. We have one with the tour and one random one that will be assigned later. Hopefully everything works out with this trip! Hopefully we will sit together for dinners. That is more important at this age. Jorja promised me she wouldn't stress me out if she was on the other side of the ship. I told her I didn't want to worry about her meeting friends and sneaking out to be crazy. I don't want Maysen and Stockton to have to be her babysitter. She promised. She is so excited.

I thought I had plenty of gas to get to Cokeville. Well, I made it, but it was pretty sketchy for the last twenty plus miles. I don't know how long we drove with the empty light on, but there was nothing around. I remember running out of gas in Wyoming with Sam and Maysen. I did not want that to happen again. We drove on fumes, but we were able to make it to the Cokeville gas station. I was so happy when I could see the Flying J in the distance. We also stopped at the McDonalds in Evanston. The kids ate on the saddle seats. Those are uncomfortable!

Once we were home Jorja had to hurry to get her PSA done. She had filmed it last week with Dessa, but she had to put it together. Hailey had to do that too. Except Hailey lost all her videos so she had to start from scratch. The PSA was due at midnight tonight and was a giant part of their English grade. I came downstairs to check on Jorja and she had Isaac on speaker. Jorja said Isaac was helping her figure out how to get the program working. Whatever. I was not going to argue with her because she needed every second she had to get the PSA finished. I fell asleep and woke up ten minutes before midnight. I went down to check on Jorja. She had just finished. Yay! She made it! Isaac was still on the phone, so I made her say goodnight and give me her phone. She asked me if she could talk to him while she was getting ready for bed. I told her no. We went upstairs and about five minutes later the home phone rang. It was Isaac. He hung up before I picked it up the first time, but he called right back. I answered and he hung up without saying anything. I think. I can't really remember because I'm writing this on Thursday. Jorja went down to bed and came up a little while later. I was sitting on the couch looking through her phone. She sat on the edge of the couch and we talked a little bit while we looked through it before she went down to bed. Preston came home awhile later. Yay! I'm always glad when my family is off the road. I got Preston ready for bed while Mike unloaded the car. I tucked Preston in and kissed him goodnight. I then kissed Stockton goodnight. He was already asleep. I went in to kiss Jorja goodnight. Her covers were all a mess. I tried to straighten them, but Jorja told me she liked them that way. I kissed her goodnight and told her I loved her. I stopped by her door and looked back at her and told her I loved her again. That's when it happened. I heard the phone ring. I immediately knew what was going on and Jorja immediately knew she was busted. She had a look of someone who had just been caught on her face. I was so mad. I looked for the phone, but it stopped ringing before I got to it. The home phone automatically calls my cell phone after two rings. Isaac knows this, so he has learned to hang up after two rings. He called right back. By this time I had found the phone and I answered. I was steaming mad. I can't describe how mad I was. Now, from the outside, sneaking a phone into your room wouldn't seem like a big deal; and certainly Jorja and Isaac have done other things that have frustrated me and been worse over the course of their friendship. This bothered me like nothing has bothered me before. Both of them knew I did not want them on the phone. It was 12:30 in the morning. School was the next day. I had already taken Jorja's phone away and told her she couldn't talk to him. I realized that when Jorja was sitting on the edge of the couch with me she was actually sneaking our home phone downstairs into her room. I have never yelled at my kids, but today I was whisper yelling. I was so mad. Jorja was crying and saying she was sorry. She said Isaac told her he had something important to talk to her about. I said, "I hope whatever he was going to say was worth losing your mother's trust." Seriously. I feel like I have been more than understanding with these two. How can I ever trust either one of them? I feel they don't respect me and think they are above the rules I set. I am not unreasonable with my rules either. I came upstairs and was trying to tell Mike what happened. I couldn't even talk. I sat there stuttering trying to explain. I was shaking. I was furious. I have never needed to punish one of my teenagers before. That changes now. Mike immediately went and disconnected our home phone. I don't think we are going to reconnect it ever again.
